Under Armour is commemorating its 30th anniversary by celebrating the product that started it all, its moisture-wicking synthetic compression shirt, in a number of different forms.
Last month it introduced the Bouncy Tee, a blend of Pima cotton and Neolast, a fiber designed to provide stretch, resiliency and long-lasting shape retention. Now the Baltimore-based sports brand is teaming with French fashion house Marine Serre on a capsule inspired by that famous T-shirt.
While the partnership with Marine Serre may seem unconventional, there are similarities. Marine Serre, the person, was a former competitive tennis player before turning her attention to fashion. And it is the baselayer that is at the heart of both brands. For Under Armour, it’s the piece that launched the company, while for Marine Serre, it is the company’s moon-patterned second skin that has become part of its creative identity.

“Sport has always been part of my life,” Serre said. “With Under Armour, I wanted to explore the beauty of movement through pieces that combine performance, precision and beauty — starting from the baselayer, the closest element to the body and to the athlete’s experience.”
“Whether in training or in design, progress comes from deliberate repetition and purposeful execution,” added Yuron White, senior vice president and general manager of sportswear and collaborations at Under Armour. “Beginning with the baselayer felt instinctive. It’s where that process exists closest to the body — and where our two perspectives meet with clarity and authenticity.”
The capsule, for men and women, features lean lines and sharp contrasts of black and white in pieces crafted from Under Armour’s HeatGear that feature a print that merges Marine Serre’s moon with the Under Armour logo. The collection includes shorts, sports bras, long-sleeve shirts and leggings and knee-length pants for women, and compression long- and short-sleeve tops, tanks, leggings and shorts for men.
The UA Proto Speed II sneaker has also made a reappearance for the first time since the late 2000s. This version features a layered textile base, sculptural leather paneling and silicone Under Armour x Marine Serre logo on the toe and vamp of the shoe.
The limited-edition capsule launches Friday exclusively at select Marine Serre retail locations, online and at an immersive pop-up that will be installed at Rue de Turenne in Paris from Friday to Sunday. The collection will be available globally through Under Armour later this summer.
