A seldom-seen spin on the classic Air Jordan 3 is reportedly making a comeback in a new look for the 2027 Super Bowl Weekend.
Michael Jordan’s Air Jordan 3 Flip sneaker will likely return early next year in an all-new Varsity Red makeup. While in-hand images aren’t yet available, the style is expected to feature an all-red elephant print upper with white, black, gray and metallic silver filling in the hardware and branding accents.
The entire upper of the shoe, sans its toe and heel overlays, has been given a full elephant print stamped treatment. This is the origin of the Flip nickname, as the remixed style flips the elephant print texture from the toe and heel to the remainder of the upper.

The Flip concept was introduced to the Air Jordan 3 in 2007 with a White/Metallic Silver/Black/Varsity Red colorway. Four years later, Nike Inc.’s Jordan Brand followed up the original style with a black-based version in 2011 alongside a grade school-sized Cool Gray iteration. The Flip theme remained dormant in the decade-plus since, but now it looks like the brand has plans to revisit the concept.
While there’s no clear immediate connection between the new Air Jordan 3 Flip colorway and the upcoming Super Bowl, it’s not the first time Nike Inc.’s Jordan Brand has released special sneakers for the annual NFL event. The brand has previously released Super Bowl-themed Air Jordan 10s and Air Jordan 12 Lows and in 2018, it released a special version of the Air Jordan 3 for Justin Timberlake’s halftime show performance.
The release of the Air Jordan 3 Retro Flip SB is set to be timed to Super Bowl LXI, which will take place in February from SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. The sneaker’s full colorway is Varsity Red/Multi-Color-Multi-Color-Multi-Color, although it’s possible this color description will be updated between now and the retail release. The style code for the new red Flip sneaker is JA7983-636 and it’s expected to launch on Feb. 13 for a to-be-determined retail price.
