Just as beauty’s seemingly unstoppable momentum has started to decelerate, so seemingly have the salary levels for many of the industry’s top chief executives.
An analysis of CEO compensation for the publicly traded companies on the 2024 WWD Beauty Top 100, our annual ranking of the world’s largest manufacturers by sales, shows a reshuffling, with P&G’s Jon R. Moeller returning to the top of the list. With two mega-IPOs in the sector during the year, Galderma’s Flemming Ørnskov and Puig’s Marc Puig feature high in the ranking, even with their paychecks only being taken into account since their respective listing dates in March and May.
The year’s biggest raises went to Beiersdorf’s Vincent Warnery, whose pay jumped 425% due to a stock allocation during the year, and Kao’s Yoshihiro Hasebe, who notched a 110.6% increase. The biggest declines, meanwhile, were for Coty’s Sue Nabi, whose massive pay rise in 2023 (her total comp package rang in at $149.4 million) was down to a stock allocation, and Kenvue’s Thibaut Mongon. In total, of the 30 executives on this list, 13 saw their remuneration increase in 2024, while 10 saw a drop in income.
In a shift from previous years, when executives for U.S. companies consistently represented the vast majority of the Top 10 earners, this year’s list featured three heads of European companies.
