On Tuesday night, Jeremy Scott saw his life laid out before him at the Longchamp boutique in SoHo.
“This is [my] life in Le Pliage bags,” said the designer. “It’s pretty chic.”
The designer was seated on the store’s second floor, where he was getting ready to host a party celebrating his 20-year collaboration with the French brand. Since 2006, Scott has put his distinctive mark on the Le Pliage bag, often featuring the prints that have defined each of his eponymous collections. The bags were displayed throughout the store, with a full spread of the collaboration exhibited on the top floor.
“I came in yesterday to the shop and saw it — it’s like, ‘aww.’ It touches my heart,” said Scott, dressed in an archival look that featured the Telephone print from one of his earliest collaborations with Longchamp. “ It is so exciting, because I don’t ever experience them in one moment anymore. I mean, yeah, there’s some in the closet, some here and there, but I’ve never gotten them all out or displayed them in that way.”

The collaboration is also currently highlighted within the Comité Colbert exhibition at The Shed, which celebrates the synergy between French and American fashion.
“When Comité Colbert asked us to select one product to be a symbol of the friendship between America and France, immediately we thought about Jeremy’s collaboration,” said Longchamp creative director Sophie Delafontaine. “ With Jeremy, it’s really a long-term friendship. Also, it’s the encounter of an iconic French bag, Le Pliage, with American pop culture and Jeremy’s creativity,” she added. “ I think it’s really something unusual in fashion, because we did something very organic. It was really just a pleasure to work together — an inspiring creative exchange.”
The evening featured a special delivery, timed for the exhibition’s opening: the arrival of a new Jeremy Scott x Longchamp bag, featuring a “Greetings from New York City” postcard print. The bag was unveiled midway through the party via drone, which flew the bag from the ground floor up to where Scott was waiting on the third floor.
The crowd included new and longtime friends of both brands, and many were dressed in prints featured on Le Pliage bags throughout the years. Looks included a Floral Flight jacket (2009), Happy Pills dress (2011), and Madballs skirt and cropped sweater (2014) worn by CT Hedden. Even the store was dressed on-theme: the facade currently features Scott’s Telephone print.
Joan Smalls, who’s known Scott for over 10 years, still has her “Viva Avant Garde” tote from the 2018 spring collection in rotation at her home in Puerto Rico. “I kid you not, I use it all the time,” said the model, praising the versatility of the oversized Longchamp design.
“ They feel different enough that you wouldn’t necessarily put them together, but that’s what makes it so special,” said Kate Mara of the Jeremy Scott-Longchamp pairing. “They’re both so deeply themselves.”
Mara and her family recently moved back to New York, in time for her to start shooting her next film, “Trust the Man.” The film, which will shoot locally in New Jersey, co-stars Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff. She also stars in Werner Herzog’s next film alongside sister Rooney Mara. “ It’s been quite a crazy year of press and things coming out, and it’s nice to just sort of take a breath with the family and the kids,” she added.
Zoey Deutch is also currently filming in New Jersey, and arrived at the party after an early morning call time and full day on set for “The 99’ers,” about the 1999 women’s world cup team.
“I’m such a big fan of yours!” the actress exclaimed, greeting Scott on the first floor as she made her way to the step-and-repeat for photos. Emma Roberts and Maggie Gyllenhaal, fresh from the Cannes jury, also stopped by the party.
“It’s really exciting when you see two brands that you admire combine forces,” said stylist Micaela Erlanger, summing up the palpable energy throughout the boutique. “Because it’s fresh, it’s still heritage, and there’s something for everybody.”
