Vans has found a surprisingly successful formula in creating new versions of its classic sneakers inspired by renowned handbags. One of the most hyped of all sneaker releases was the Old Skool “Souvenir,” which borrows from Chanel’s Graffiti bag and continues to be updated with new colorways. Kicks derived from other Chanel bags have followed, but the next big thing from Vans may come from a series pivoting to Loewe.
The Vans Authentic “Ibiza Pack” features three colorways merging punk aesthetics with notes of Loewe’s straw fringe bag of the same name. All three colorways make use of a colorful mix of frayed yarn for their sidewalls while featuring a suede vamp in either burgundy, navy or black. The latter element is then lined with studs alternating between spikes and jewels, and a distressed midsole continues the grungy look.

Greg Betty, the former Vans designer responsible for many of the brand’s current hits including the “Souvenir” series, revealed his mood board for the “Ibiza” Authentics in an Instagram Monday. In addition to the aforementioned Loewe bag, he cited Paramore singer Hayley Williams, patchwork plaid skirts and sunsets in the city of Ibiza.
